Admiralty Harbour Whiskey Jack Crowned The IRC Overall Winner in The Rolex China Sea Race 2023

The Rolex China Sea Race 2023, the first offshore race out of Hong Kong since 2019, kicked off on 5 April 2023 in a southerly breeze of around 3 to 5kts.  This 565nm Category 1 offshore race starts in Victoria Harbour, ran across the South China Sea and finishes in Subic Bay, the Philippines.  18 boats, including Admiralty Harbour Whiskey Jack, participated for the Rolex trophy and among which,14 teams are based in Hong Kong, three from the Philippines and one from mainland China.

After nearly 100 hours of intense racing in a range of conditions, Admiralty Harbour Whiskey Jack crossed the finish line in Subic Bay at 15h 02m 11s HKT on Sunday and was crowned the IRC overall winner on corrected time.

Skipper Nick Southward was greeted with applause at the dock and said “It feels absolutely amazing, seriously I can't believe it.  I mean we've won this race!  We've been right at the back of the fleet.  We had a wild last 24 hours it was just wild; we could not have pushed it harder.  But we stayed in one piece, everyone's here and it just feels amazing to be here!”

First held in 1962, the Rolex China Sea Race is one of the most prestigious sailing events and the most challenging offshore race - the race is definitely a testament to the sailing skills, team spirit and perseverance of her captain and crew to tackle the ever-changing and often challenging conditions in the South China Sea.  Congratulations to Admiralty Harbour Whiskey Jack and her captain and crew!
